RH-ALAN PHP-MV9
According to the website WWW.PMULCAHY.COM (in a page called "CROATIAN PISTOLS", which looks like have disappeared after their last 6/18/2002 update, although the information can be found at:http://www.pmulcahy.com/yugoslavian_pistols.htm the PHP-MV9 was a .9x19-Parabellum, 15-rounds magazine fed semiautomatic handgun which was produced in Croatia immediately after their declaration of Independence from F.R. of Yugoslavia. Apparently, it was produced in the CRVENA ZASTAVA (yugo small arms state factory) installation which the brand new Croatian army seized and taken control of, due to the independence, in order to "create" THEIR state-owned armaments corporation, the RH-ALAN. I looked information about this weapons for a long time, till I found another picture of this weapon at the website: http://www.berettaweb.com/armi/PB_99A.htm It was told to be an unknown firearm seized during an action by an Balkans area police service, and it was told to be heavily based on a Beretta project called PB99-A. I E-Mailed their webmaster and submitted my information. Although those were not published on their website, the Webmaster contacted me back, telling me that Beretta, during the '70s, had many business contacts with the CRVENA ZASTAVA. This is what I can assume: the PHP-MV9 was produced after the new Croatian government created the RH-ALAN company by seizing control of the CRVENA ZASTAVA factories placed on the Croatian territory. They needed an handgun for their forces, and they needed it QUICKLY, so they began to produce the first pistol they found a project available: the PB99-A , a.k.a. PHP-MV9. The PHP-MV9 was produced in a very small number, so it's quite rare. Furthermore, when the war decreased its strength, RH-ALAN factories began production of the HS95. ============================== New information added 11/8/04 I would like to point out the error in your text on this page: http://www.securityarms.com/20010315/galleryfiles/1800/1835.htm Sentence that says: "Apparently, it was produced in the CRVENA ZASTAVA (yugo small arms state factory) installation which the brand new Croatian army seized and taken control of, due to the independence......" ...is inaccurate because no one had ever taken that factory over. Since the WW2 this factory has been and is inside Serbia. It was bombed by americans, but never taken over by any foreign force. The design of that specific firearm mentioned may have been duplicated, but factory was not taken over. Regards, Srdjan S.
