WINCHESTER LMR (U.S.A)
The Winchester Lightweight Military Rifle is one of the many proto-type weapons designed for possible military adoption. The rifle fired a proprietary 224-Winchester cartridge which bears similarities to the 223-Remington round developed for the AR-15. Designed around the M1 Garand bolt and the M2 Carbine gas system the weapon was intended to be capable of semi-automatic or full-automatic fire. The weapon suffered from being introduced in 1964 when the AR-15 had largely begun it's path to military adoption, the weapon was never produced in large numbers. The WINCHESTER LMR fired the proprietary 224-WINCHESTER/E2 cartridge, feeding from a 20-rounds magazine. Its weight was 5.50 Pounds.
