Colt Double Eagle
The Colt Firearms company had been producing their venerable Model 1911 Series of pistols for almost eighty years when the Double Eagle was introduced as a refinement of the Colt line in 1990. It was a stainless steel double action design which incorporated a decocking lever on the left hand side, it was considered sacrilegious by some 45 aficionado's that it was a double action model. The Double Eagle however did not catch on in sales and by 1997 the pistol had been discontinued, there had been conjecture that the weapon would be released in .38-Super, .40-SW and .9x19mm-Parabellum chambering but it is not known if this occurred. Ironically the weapon has seen more production as an air soft "BB gun" during it's years of manufacture as many who could not afford the real thing chose to own a replica. -- TECHNICAL DATA: CALIBER: .45-ACP/.10mm-Auto CAPACITY: 8-Rounds double-stack column magazine (.45-ACP) / 7-rounds double-stack column magazine (.10mm-Auto) WEIGHT: 2.43 Pounds
