TARIQ .32ACP Pistol
A little background, first... AL-QADISSIYA ESTABLISHMENTS The "Al-Qadissiya Establishment" occupies 8 square km and has 3 main entrance gates. The General Manager is (or was) General Thafer Sadiq Hussein. Other senior officials are: Brigadier Othman Al Siqar (Deputy General Manager), Brigadier (Engineers Corps) Al Hareth (Production Manager), Major (Intelligence) Mazin (Security Officer). The primary function of the establishment are factories connected with weapons of mass destruction. However, several factories, or production lines, manufacture small arms with imported machineries for the Iraq Armed Forces The main product of this facility is centrifuges used in nuclear weapons production. It also contains labs for quality control testing for chemical weapons and welding factory for missiles. There are also plans to construct a factory for producing electronic circuits for missiles, however, building stopped because of a lack of equipment. ----------- TARIQ .9x19mm and .32-ACP pistols Three factories, or production lines, of the AL-QADISSIYA ESTABLISHMENTS are engaged in production of the TARIQ pistol. These factories produce 32-ACP (7.65mm) and 9x19mm pistols, however, recently engineers have converted one factory for the production of a new Tariq 13mm. Production started but ceased for lack of spare parts. Before the recent war, 1000 9mm and 500 7.65mm pistols were produced daily (this is 50 percent of capacity). There is a separate carpentry factory which specialises in pistol handles (grips?) and other items. According to my contact, Mr. UGO MUFFOLINI, Spare Parts & Optionals Marketing Manager for FABBRICA D'ARMI PIETRO BERETTA S.P.A., the TARIQ pistol manufacturing was started in Iraq in the last 1970s, in fact this would be confirmed by the fact that the gun was first seen in a Defence Expo in Egypt in 1979. The machineries for the production of the TARIQ pistol were sold by BERETTA in the end of the '70s, when the Italian firm definitely ceased the production of the "original" guns that the TARIQ pistols copy: the .9mm M-951 and the .32-ACP M-70. The TARIQ pistols doesn't bear internal similarities and/or innovations respect to the original BERETTAs. Both the Italian and the Iraqi products are combat-proven, rugged and reliable items that rarely defect. There are however several external differences betweeb the BERETTAs and the TARIQs, mainly the arabian engravings on the slide and the golden emblem on the grip. The TARIQ .9mm pistol is in service with the Iraqi Police, and it was in service with the Iraqi Armed Forces, and with the Republican Guard: the models issued to the "Saddam Hussein's Private Police" have a special marking on the frame. -- TECHNICAL SPECS: TARIQ .32-ACP CALIBER: .32-ACP (.7'65x17mm-Browning) CAPACITY: 8 rounds OVERALL LENGHT: 165 Millimeters (6,5 Inches) OVERALL HEIGHT: 132 Millimeters (4,27/32 Inches) BARREL LENGHT: 90 Millimeters (3,35/64 Inches) WEIGHT OF PISTOL (with empty magazine): 660 Grams (1 Oz. 7 ¼ ) - TARIQ 9MM CALIBER: .9x19mm-Parabellum CAPACITY: 8 or 11 rounds SYSTEM OPERATION: Recoil barrel locked by a vertically sliding catch WEIGHT: From 720 Grams (25,4 Oz.) to 890 Grams (31,4 Oz.)
