PSS silent pistol
The PSS is a fairly conventional blowback semi-automatic pistol with the exception of its unique ammunition, which is silent – not suppressed. The PSS was designed by Viktor Levchenko to a special operations requirement… Caliber: 7,62x42mm, SP-4 cartridges Operation: Blowback Weight: 1,54 lbs. (7 kg) Length: 6,5 in (165 mm) Barrel Length: App. 3 in (76 mm) Effective Range: 25 m Magazine Capacity: 6 rounds Source: "The New World of Russian Small Arms & Ammo" by Charlie Cutshaw, illustrations by Lyn Haywood. The PSS is intended to replace at one time the Izhmash-made PSM concealed carry pistol and 6PB-Osa sound-suppressed Makarov-derivative. It has a 6 rounds single-stack column detacheable magazine, and fires the proprietary 7'62x41mm "SP4" silenced and smokeless ammunition. Apparently, being the cartridge sound-suppressed by itself (don't ask me exactly the way how), it makes very little noise, no barrel blast and no barrel smoke. It's a covert-ops pistol.
